2010 Paralympic Winter Games - Vancouver

The 2010 Paralympic torch relay starts on the 3rd of March in Ottawa, Ontario and ends with the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games on the 12th March in Vancouver. The Winter Paralympic Games continue until the 21st March.

Paralympic sports are the following:

  • Alpine skiing
  • Biathlon
  • Cross-Country Skiing
  • Ice Sledge Hockey
  • Wheelchair Curling

New European Commission: “But who is in charge now?”

The new European Commission took office last 10 February 2010, following the positive vote in the European Parliament on 9 February. The confidence vote was held in Strasbourg after a three month delay and a prolonged period of disagreement between the EU's two main institutions and after politician’s hearings.

ZDIS - FIMITIC International Employability Conference 2009

In the frame of the 40 year´s anniversary of ZDIS, the Federation of Disabled Workers of Slovenia which theme was »DISABLED WORKERS –CREATORS OF EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES« an international conference on employability was organized with the contribution of FIMITIC at Spa Topolšica, in Slovenia, on 18 September 2009.

The title of the conference was »EXAMPLES OF GOOD PRAXIS AND INNOVATIVE MEASURES TO MAINTAN EMPLOYMENT OF DISABLED WORKERS IN THE PRESENT ECONOMIC CRISIS«

FIMITIC Biannual work programme for 2010 - 2011

During the following years, FIMITIC will work on various aspects so as to be able to improve the situation of all people with physical disabilities all over Europe.

Here are the objectives:

FIMITIC Delegates' Conference and ZDIS International Employability Conference

FIMITIC and the Federation of Disabled Workers of Slovenia ZDIS held events from 17 to 19 September in Spa Topolšica in Slovenia. The international conference the venue and the technical conditions were organized by the ZDIS. The administrative part official documents such as invitation, preliminary agenda, call for registration, statutory matters etc. was done by the FIMITIC Secretariat. 

Hotel Panda Budapest – Employing disabled people

The Budapest Hotel Panda is situated in the green Buda Hills and was recently renovated. The owners of this hotel have decided to give job opportunities to those who don´ t get them very often. Most of the employees of the Hotel Panda are handicapped.
 

International Conference on Accessible Tourism for Disabled People on September 11-14, 2008 in Vác, Hungary

Initiated by FIMITIC Vice-President Dr. Csaba Chikan, on behalf of the Hungarian member Association, the National Federation of Disabled Persons´ Associations - MEOSZ - and in cooperation with FIMITIC an International conference was organized about “Accessible tourism for disabled people” on September 11-14, 2008 in Vác, Hungary.

The project is based on the “Visegrad 4” member countries including Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovak Republic. The International Visegrad Fund was established in 2000.
 

Belgium: Death of President Felix Vanlaer

The President of the Belgian member Association Felix Vanlaer has passed away on June 27, 2008. He was founder of the Association of Working Invalids - AIT - and the most active Chair for many years.

Felix Vanlaer was an untiring advocate of the Belgian working invalids and fighter for their human rights.

FIMITIC will remember him.

Resignation of FIMITIC President

Herewith please be informed that Nigel Brander, the President of FIMITIC since 2005, due to serious health reasons by written communication unfortunately resigned from his function in March 2008.

The FIMITIC Board conveyed the best wishes to Nigel Brander and expressed the hope of all of us that he will overcome the ongoing health problems and recover soon.
