Reaffirms its commitment to the Geneva Convention on Human Rights

Condemns any war because wars create suffering for all people and create additional disabilities

Realizes the extremely difficult situation for all victims of the cruel conflict, their suffering and death of the civilian populations

Expresses grave concern about the outbreak and escalation hostilities in Lebanon and Israel, it’s cynical, misplaced annihilation and mutilation of human life, and the continued violence and degrading treatment of any human being in the name of religion, race or creed

Recalls its dedication of striving towards equality of life for all people on earth with special focus on persons with disabilities in need of disability related urgent and secure access to care at facing new risks from escalating violence

Deplores the failed diplomatic efforts undertaken up to present

Urges all parties concerned to put an end to the violence and its consequences and to immediately resume negotiations now with view to reaching a peaceful solution in conformity with international law and respect of human dignity under coordination and responsibility of the United Nations

E-ACCESSIBILITY to be theme for the International Day of Disabled Persons 2006

UNITED NATIONS, 26 July -- Improving access to new information technology for persons with disabilities will be the focus of this year’s International Day of Disabled Persons, the United Nations announced today.

The Day, which is marked on 3 December, seeks to promote the integration of people with disabilities into society.

FREE TO FLY - Landmark EU Regulation adopted by Transport Ministers to stop daily discrimination against disabled air passengers

Brussels, 9 June 2006 - “Europe’s efforts to eliminate borders and to facilitate the free movement of its citizens is most of the times a far reality for disabled people. People with disabilities and their families are daily stopped from travelling due to arbitrary reasons or the specific policy of an air carrier. The Regulation adopted today will change the lives of people with disabilities and it is a long-waited step in our combat against discrimination,” said the President of the European Disability Forum, Yannis Vardakastanis.

EUROPEAN UNION : European Year of Equal Opportunities for All” gets green light

The European Commission welcomed the decision by the Council and Parliament to designate 2007 as 'European Year of Equal Opportunities for All'. The year will aim to make Europeans aware of their right not to be discriminated against, to promote equal opportunities in areas from work to healthcare, and to show how diversity makes the EU stronger. The year will have four themes: rights, representation, recognition and respect, with a total budget of €15 million for the 12 months activities.

EDF - Annual General Assembly Rome 2006 – Main results and decisions

On 27 and 28 May 2006, EDF held its Annual General Assembly and associated meetings in Rome, Italy. FIMITIC was represented by two official delegates: Nigel Brander, President, and Marija-Lidija Stiglic, Secretary General (also in her function as EDF Board member).

Council of Europe adopts Disability Action Plan

On 7 April 2006, the Committee of Ministers has adopted a recommendation addressed to all 46 member states on the Council of Europe's "Action Plan to promote the rights and full participation in society of people with disabilities : improving the quality of life of people with disabilities in Europe 2006-2015".

FIMITIC: Global health priority isssue towards equal opportunities for disabled people - World Health Day 2006 - "Working together for health"

Budapest, April 07 2006

On the occasion of its meeting in Budapest, Hungary, the FIMITIC Board outlines that global health becomes priority issue with view to disability prevention and appropriate medical treatment of disabled people. At the core of the meeting a health discussion took place and a call was launched for urgency of all involved in health-related policy, systems and decision making processes on national and international level to meet the requirements for a fair distribution of medical services while also improving the health workforce crisis.
