European Day of Disabled Persons 2007 European Conference addressed “People with disabilities – Active players in the Internal Market“

This year the European day of Disabled Persons European Conference did address the challenges of people with disabilities to be able to enjoy all four freedoms of the international market, in other words free movement of goods, services and capital, and to ensure that their needs will be fully taken into consideration in the Single market review to remove any remaining barriers as initiated by the European Commission in its Communication issued on 20 November 2007.

The International Day of Disabled Persons 3 December, 2007 Theme: “Decent Work for persons with disabilities”

This year’s International Day of Disabled Persons focused on the goal of decent work for persons with disabilities, and reminds us that every person deserves opportunities for productive employment in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity.

Madrid Conference on Women and Disability – an important step towards gender equality within the European disability movement

The EDF (European Disability Forum) and CERMI (Spanish National Disability Council) Conference on Women and Disability took place in Madrid on November 16-18, 2007.

With more than 150 participants, representing almost all EDF national councils (23 out of 27) and a large number of full and ordinary ENGOs, the EDF/CERMI conference on women and disability can be considered a success.

FIMITIC present at the Closing Conference on the 2007 European Year of Equal Opportunities for All

The Closing Conference on the 2007 European Year of Equal Opportunities on November 19-20 in Lisbon, Portugal, under the auspices of the EU Portuguese Presidency aimed to draw conclusions on all the work that was accomplished during the European Year and to set out the goals for the future.

PORTUGAL announces the new Action programme

The FIMITIC member association in Portugal, the National Association of Disabled by Work Accident - ANDST -, based in Porto, at its recent Assembly presented its new Action programme and elected a new Board of Directors. Luís Machado was elected new President of ANDST.

One Million Signatures in campaign for comprehensive EU disability legislation

On the 4th of October, delegations of disabled people travelling from 30 different European countries gathered in Brussels to call on the European Union for comprehensive disability legislation.

SLOVAK REPUBLIC - Universal Design and Accessibility and Education in ICT for people with disability on the core agenda

The member association in Slovakia, the Slovak Union of Physically Disabled - SZTP - does attach great importance to the issue of Universal design and accessibility and thus monitoring and lobbying the concept on environment friendly policy.A good example is shown by the submitted contribution on tourist facilities entitled “Some new trends in the social tourism in Slovak Republic”.

Further facilities of self-government, health and education are initiated as well.

Spirit of collective responsibility at the FIMITIC Delegates´ Conference - September 15, 2007 in the Trinity College Dublin

 Attended by participants from 14 member countries, the FIMITIC Delegates´ Conference 2007 with determination and consistency, in an open and transparent manner, approved the reports of the past period and developed a forward looking strategy by adoption of the biannual work programme on the basis of the submitted motions and proposals as follows:
