ROMANIA: AHNR one of the winners of the Civil Society Awards Gala

An acknowledgement of the excelleny in the domain of social activism.

The second edition of the Civil Society Gala, a project of Millenium Communications, is the widest event in Romania speaking about values: civic spirit, social activism, etc.
Organizer of these edition was the Ethos Association of Communication. The principal jury of the Gala consisted of outsatnding personalities of the civil society like: Dan Manoleli, Mihai Oroveanu, Cristian Pârvulescu, Anca Harasim, Alin Teodorescu, Marian Preda, Alexandru Lazescu ºi Radu Dop.

The Festivity of the Awards Gala for the best projects of 2003 took place on December 10 being hosted by the National Theater Bucharest.

The participants could choose, accordingly to the project they presented, between the following eight domains of activities of the civil society: ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION, ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT, PROTECTION OF INDIVIDUAL AND COLECTIVE RIGHTS, CIVIC BEHAVIOUR AND PUBLIC PARTICIPATION, HEALTH, SOCIAL SERVICES FOR DISADVANTAGED CATEGORIES, EDUCATION AND RESEARCH, ART AND CULTURE.

The most reamarkable projects, out of the 126, received the trophy of the Civil Society Gala.

The winner of the "Defending of individual and colective rights" category was the Association of Persons with Neuromotor Disability from Romania - AHNR - (Asociaþia Handicapaþilor Neuromotor din România) with the project "Announcement of disability". The award was handed by Andrei Cohn, Creative Director Cohn & Jansen.

Launched within 7 Zone Centers, the project "Announcement of disabilityi" - developed with the financial support of the UNICEF Representative in Romania, represents a referece of how a public campaign developed on national level can carry out actions with the common goals of co-operation, intercommunication in order to improve the attitude and behaviour of all those persons which are involved in the pre and postnatal announcement of the disability. The most important result of this pilot project for Romania is the First National Support Group for the Announcement od Disability consisting of 20 specialists and 5 parents - set up on the occasion of the National Evaluating Seminar that marked the end of the project.
