UNITED NATIONS: International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 3. December 2007

The theme of the Day was “Decent Work for Persons with Disabilities.” At the press briefing and panel discussion, speakers explained how companies benefit from employing persons with disabilities.

At a piano concert that evening entitled “Different Notes,” renowned artists from around the world performed at United Nations Headquarters.

In Article 27, the Convention recognizes the rights of persons with disabilities to work and employment on an equal basis with others. In most countries up to 80 per cent of persons with disabilities of working age are unemployed.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) commissioned a working paper on decent work entitled, “The Right to Decent Work of Persons with Disabilities.”
