FIMITIC

It is with deep regret that we have to announce that Marjan Kroflič died at the age of 75 after severe illness on November 6, 2012, in Slovenia. The funeral was held on Ljubljana's cemetery Žale on 14th of November.

Marjan Kroflič was born on 29 January 1937. He was a professor of psychology. He had cooperation during a long period within ZDIS (Federation of Disabled Workers of Slovenia). He was the initiator and author of the ZDIS newspaper "Obvestila" and the author of several publications. He was President of ZDIS from 1995 until 1998.

Marjan Kroflič deserves most credit for his active involvement in the campaign for the amendment of the Slovenian Constitution by inserting the supplement of “disability” as a non discriminatory principle, thus the article 14 was a historic moment with symbolic character for people with disabilities in Slovenia.

He initiated the cooperation agreement between the FIMITIC member associations in Slovenia (ZDIS), Hungary (MEOSZ) and Croatia (HSUIR).

Marjan Kroflič played an essential role in FIMITIC as its Vice President for many years.

In 2005 he received the FIMITIC Gold Medal Award in recognition of his extraordinary personal contribution for promotion of civil rights of persons with disabilities and of continuous efforts to integrate persons with disabilities in work, vocational training and society on national and international level as well as for its fight for improvements in the legislation of the socio-political field.

His work reflected in an exemplary way the FIMITIC goals and is thus promoting the progressing development in the field of rehabilitation.

The FIMITIC Board extends its most sincere condolences to Marjan Kroflič' s family and to the leaders and members of the Slovenian member association.

The sudden loss of our colleague and friend is devastating. 

We lost a devoted activist for the human rights of disabled people.

FIMITIC will always be grateful to him for his work and remember him!
