Death of a woman activist and Swiss pioneer Rita Vökt – Iseli

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that , Rita Vökt – Iseli, Maisprach, Switzerland, due to a serious ill-health died on March 15, 2008.

The funeral will take place in Maisprach on Saturday, April 5, 2008.

The FIMITIC Board extends its most sincere condolences to Rita´ s family and the leaders and members of the Swiss member association procap.

The sudden loss of our colleague and friend is devastating.

Since her death was announced tributes have been paid already by many of the people who knew her or admired her work.

Rita Vökt was 57 years old. She is survived by her husband Roger and daughter Mirjam with husband Norbert Uebelhart-Vökt and the four grandchildren Janos, Silas, Ester and Ruben.

Rita Vökt- Iseli was a great personality and exemplary character at the forefront of the fight to improve the life of disabled women in Switzerland and cross borders. She was not only a valuable but a cherished cooperative colleague and friend cross borders, servant with knowledge and expertise. She provided tremendous energy to the community confronted with challenges of the increased awareness transforming the society. She talked to the decision-makers, but knew herself as mother with a severe physical disability very well about the everyday life of people with disability.
Rita is an inspiration and role model.

We lost a great woman and a devoted fighter for the human rights of disabled people.

May you rest in peace, Rita!
