Young voices call for greater inclusion of youth with disabilities in development

On 25 July, DESA hosted an interactive discussion titled “Including youth with disabilities in development”, aimed at ensuring the inclusion of youth with disabilities in all aspects of development.

The panel discussion was opened by Daniela Bas, Director, Division for Social Policy and Development, DESA, and was moderated by Akiko Ito, Chief, SCRPD, DESA. Panelists included Vladimir Cuk, International Disability Alliance, Nicola Brandt, UNICEF, James Aniyamuzaala, African Youth with Disabilities Network and Leonard Cheshire Disability Young Voices: Mohammed Ishan Jalill from Sri Lanka and Chiedza Karen Nkomthazana from Zimbabwe.

The event also included the screening of the Young Voices video, "Disability is not inability!" The event was held in conjunction with the High-level Meeting on Youth held at UN Headquarters from 25 to 26 July.

The panel was sponsored by the delegation of the European Union and the Permanent Mission of Australia to the United Nations, and was organized by DESA and the International Disability Alliance in collaboration with UNICEF and Leonard Cheshire Disability International.
