UNCRPD – Slovakia and Lithuania ratified the Convention and the optional protocol

Slovakia and Lithuania ratified the UN Convention for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

However, the Lithuanian Parliament ratified the UN Convention and the Optional Protocol with a reservation on article 25, which is as follows:

“Statement by the Republic of Lithuania Republic of Lithuania declares that the definition of "sexual and reproductive health” used in Article 25, paragraph a of the Convention, may not be interpreted as establishing a new human rights and establishing relevant international obligations for the Republic of Lithuania. The content of this legal concept does not embrace the sponsorship, promotion or advertising of pregnancy termination and neutering, and medical procedures that could lead to discrimination based on genetic characteristics for persons with disabilities.”


Lithuania has not yet deposited the ratification instrument in New York.
