FIMITIC EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETS IN BUDAPEST - Board to discuss Asian tsunami and other key issues

The FIMITIC Executive Board met in Budapest on January 28-30, 2005 to tackle key issues regarding Tsunami and impact on disabled people, and the forthcoming FIMITIC Delegates´ Conference to take place on October 5-9, 2005 in Nottwil (nearby Luzern), Switzerland, in co-operation with the Swiss member association - procap.The FIMITIC Executive Board met in Budapest on January 28-30, 2005 to tackle key issues regarding

1. Tsunami and impact on disabled people

Witnessed the horrific earthquake and tsunami disaster the FIMITIC Board calls on all of its members and liaison partners in the region to urgently approach the international support services to ensure inclusion and access of disabled persons in all relief and reconstruction initiatives


2. The forthcoming FIMITIC Delegates´ Conference to take place on October 5-9, 2005 in Nottwil (nearby Luzern), Switzerland, in co-operation with the Swiss member association - procap -, especially to go ahead with the

3. The advanced two-partite Seminar day to the Delegates´ Conference on October 8, 2005 to deal with a study of the modern rehabilitation concept on one hand and an itemised seminar on critical state of affairs and reflection on rationalisation of medical care effecting disabled people on the other hand.

The seminar programme is in the preparatory stage.


4. The redefining of FIMITIC´ s role, increasing its policy focus and involvement of members the FIMITIC Executive Board took a long, hard look at the basics in conformity with the statutory, administrative and financial situation.

New ideas and tough issues were outspoken and the discussion will continue.


Taking the socio-political development update in Hungary in account talks with representatives of the Hungarian member association MEOSZ (National Federation of Associations of Disabled Persons in Hungary) took place in the frame of the Budapest Board meeting in Budapest and Vác.

The core Expert FIMITIC Women and Disability Group, co-ordinated by Elisabeth Szöllösi, MEOSZ, with women representatives from Croatia, Hungary and Romania met in Budapest on the occasion to evaluate the mid-term review on the both questionnaire inquiries launched on the situation of women and disability and the legislation in the FIMITIC member countries. An output signal was as well given with regard to the need of identification and exchange of experience on member country levels on prevention of violence of women with disability.
